Project Description
Waller Corporation completed the full construction package associated with the new 15,000sf East Campus Welcome and Education Center for the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. This was a complete site development and building construction project. Some of the highlights associated with project was the extension of trolley rail lines to bring the track alongside of the new facility. These tracks were placed and then surrounded by brick pavers to recreate a street setting from the 1930’s. A covered canopy was also fully constructed so guests would be protected from the elements when entering and leaving the trolley cars. The building itself was constructed to have a multi-purpose room, several display areas for artifacts and interactive displays, a children’s learning area and a full office area and souvenir sales area.
Some of the special aspects of the construction of this project included a complete stormwater detention system, structural concrete foundations, design and erection of a pre-engineered building structure, fabrication and installation of a structural steel mezzanine, masonry wall and brick construction, concrete slab on grade and slab on deck and exterior metal roof and wall panel installation. The interior of the building featured metal stud framing with thermal and sound insulation, drywall walls, acoustical tile ceilings, polished concrete, carpet, ceramic tile, full painting, casework and glazing. To complete the full function of the building, fully integrated electrical, fire protection, plumbing and HVAC systems were installed. These systems were all coordinating with a cutting-edge A/V system, security system and building automation package.
